Again in the Green Arrow, Issue #39, displays that it’s set in the 21st century. Felicity says, “Oh, I do. My Blu-ray collection is legendary. Amazon Prime. Save on shipping sucks you right in…” What’s interesting about this statement is it almost sounds like an Amazon advertisement. In this issue, Mr. King reveals to the Arrow that he saved him 4 years ago and their encounter led him to his current plans to change the city. Mr. King states, “You saved me once. Four years ago. When I saw that you purposely missed any critical artery…that you were going to let this parasite live…that’s when I knew Seattle was next to be annexed. It deserved more than a coward as its guardian.” In this issue, Mr. King makes it clear that he’s going to take down all of Oliver Queen’s loved ones and he starts with Felicity.
Felicity is arrested and sent to a super max prison. Again, Felicity continues to make me laugh throughout the comic with her witty humor. Although she’s in prison she jokes, “Isn’t this supposed to be orange? Because this is not the new black.” I love the Netflix original series, Orange is the New Black which made this comment really funny. In the series, Piper is sent to prison where she encounters many difficulties with the other women she’s forced to live with. I know there’s a lot of controversy in the medical field on the concept of assisted suicide which made this issue to be extremely relevant. In Mr. King’s eyes, he’s helping those who are sick in the hospital and aren’t getting better by helping them die. Mr. King reveals, “The sick and diseased are an anchor. Their expedited deaths will help cure the rest of us.” His big master plan is to help his city by curing it through the means of those who are sick and taking up room in hospitals. It’s actually a really sad issue as Mia, his daughter, admits that she is sick too and wonders what her father will do to her since he plans to wipe out all that are sick to benefit those who are not. The comic ends with the Arrow forming a team with other superheroes such as Batman to defeat Mr. King.
