I found “Meet Captain America” to be a straightforward comic whereas with the “Phantom Lady” I found myself confused as to what she was doing. At first, I thought the “Phantom Lady” was talking to herself throughout most of the comic but then I noticed the small circles leading from her to her thought bubble signifying what she was thinking at the time. I find it comical that she sneaks up behind the bad guy and yet he knocks her out immediately. From that first encounter, I thought it symbolized her being weak since she’s a female yet later in the comic she announces how she’s a student of jiu-jitsu ends up hurting him.
As for the “Imperial Superhero” article, I found it to be an informative take on several different superheroes and their origins extending to more than just the U.S. but other countries such as Africa, Middle East, Asia, etc. The diversity of some superheroes backgrounds and origin of their powers demonstrates superheroes being international and not created in relation to one country. As for our “Supermen!” reading, I found the Silver Streak to be the most interesting issue. The Silver Streak comic reminds me of The Flash. His super speed resembles that of The Flash which makes me curious of whether or not The Flash originates from the Silver Streak. I found this comic to be particularly interesting because he doesn’t have a dual identity. He doesn’t wear a mask or hides his face, people see him and refer to him as the Silver Streak. We aren’t presented with another name to call him such as Clark Kent as Superman. The Silver Streak even does a show for kids in this particular issue where he shows off his superpowers. I found his suction cup shoes to be a very funny invention for running down and up buildings. I’m not sure exactly how well that would work with his fast speed, it seems like they would slow him down. This comic stuck out to me the most because of the ending. The last frame gives the comic a suspenseful ending making me look forward to reading the next issue to find out who is plotting to kill the Silver Streak. Most of the previous comics end on a good note such as complimenting the superhero’s success but the Silver Streak provides a unique ending by introducing a villain.
